National Bird Day - January 5th

National Bird Day Teachers Pack

We all know that children love animals. Educators can nurture that love with our new National Bird Day Teachers Pack, a proverbial bag of birdie goodies that includes the beautifully illustrated children’s book "Lucky." It also contains:

  • A "Lucky"-inspired lesson plan
  • Three new full-color National Bird Day posters
  • A coloring page depicting birds caged and — as they should be — free
  • Born Free USA’s distinctive bookmark

Order a pack today for just $15 — almost $5 less than the price of ordering "Lucky" alone! We offer this cost savings to teachers so that they can share "Lucky’s" heart-warming story and use the pack’s other materials to promote the loving spirit of National Bird Day. Order a pack for an educator friend and we’ll include a "Lucky" gift card!

"Lucky," written by Born Free USA Senior Program Associate Monica Engebretson, gently awakens children to the plight of captive birds and birds captured in the wild. Based on a true story, it tells the tale of a parrot who is captured in the wild and eventually regains his freedom with the help of a young Indonesian boy. The book is printed on recycled, chlorine-free paper to protect the environment and the world’s forests.

The lesson plan incorporates the story of "Lucky" into the contexts of biology, geography, and arts and culture, and includes fun activities. The posters can be displayed in the classroom — or at your local animal shelter, library, co-op or responsible pet supply store that does not sell birds and other animals. Our gorgeous four-color, two-sided bookmark is made from 100 percent recycled materials (50 percent post-consumer waste), and is printed on firm cardstock.

When you place your order, we’d also appreciate hearing where you or your friends teach, and what grades. And thank you for spreading the good word about birds!
